An investigation into Inuit landscape with Archaeologist Colleen Hughes
January 16, 2019
Journey across the vast arctic landscape with Archaeologist Colleen Hughes as she reveals information that can be gleaned from Inuit place names and how it can shed light on the archaeological record. Hughes’ research aims to find out ‘what is in a name?’ by using analytical software which mines text for underlying intent or sentiment. While sentiment analysis is more commonly associated with search engines and on-line marketing tools, Colleen explains how it may offer a unique way of indicating how people perceive their landscapes and help us to dig deeper into our understanding of the arctic.
This presentation is in conjunction with the exhibition Echoes in the Ice. Admission to the galleries will be free prior to the program.
