Sesqui Meridian Virtual Reality

Canada 150 Event

August 19, 2017 - August 20, 2017

Drop by the Esplanade for your chance to explore an immersive world of inspiration and wonder with MERIDIAN VR. SESQUI’s free app hosts six original, interactive virtual reality stories, featuring Canadians who are shaping their world through creativity. Linked through a central menu space that evolves as the user views the content, MERIDIAN VR pushes the boundaries of participatory storytelling through immersive media. Each story session lasts 3-5 minutes and there are six experiences to choose from.

MERIDIAN VR is available for iOS, Android and Oculus, for viewing on Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard and Oculus Rift.

Stories in MERIDIAN VR include:

A TRIBE CALLED RED: INDIAN CITY 360° Remix a Tribe Called Red track using only your eyes! Filmed at Toronto’s Fort York, this interactive video from the acclaimed Indigenous DJ collective uses gradient audio to mix traditional and contemporary sounds, and features a throwdown between hip-hop and pow wow dancers.

POLARMAN Brave, bold and benevolent, Polarman is a real-life superhero. This piece tells the origin story of Iqaluit’s beloved, masked anti-bullying crusader, through an interactive mix of 360° video and comics drawn by Canadian artists Daniel Day, Leisha-Marie Riddel and Andrew Qappik.

HANI AL MOULIA: MY OWN PERSPECTIVE Legally blind Syrian photographer Hani al Moulia has a unique view of the world. My Own Perspective mixes 360° video and interactive photos to share Hani’s journey from Syria to a refugee camp in Lebanon, to Regina, SK, as he understands his world through the lens.

ART ALIVE: PIKANGIKUM Indigenous art comes alive in an animated mural created through a collaboration between students from the First Nation of Pikangikum, ON, artist Michael Cywink and filmmaker Amanda Strong. Interactive animation vividly brings to life traditional Ojibwe teachings.

Bliss out to the beauty of west-coast water. This collaboration between award-winning BC designer, Marian Bantjes, and innovative BC musician, Loscil, mixes video collage and generative music to immerse users in an aquatic, geodesic sphere. Find out about residential locksmith services on
