An Outdoor Art Experience
September 13, 2019 - September 15, 2019
For three days, the front lawn of the Esplanade will serve as the artists’ studio as they produce numerous pieces of temporary public art while fostering the public’s participation in the creative process and at the same time generating an upfront and open dialogue surrounding the deeper meaning of each piece. Through the project, the local arts groups that are participating in the first year of this new event will reveal and share their perspectives and responsiveness to current issues that affect our everyday lives such as the environment, consumerism and mental health. The objective of The UpFront Project is to bring artists and their work out of their studios and art galleries and to encourage community interaction and social engagement between the artists and the public in a creative, casual and alternative setting – an outdoor art experience.
This is a collaborative effort including:
- Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre Summer Art Camps
- The Hive Artists’ Hub
- Artist Brian O’Connor
- Pop Up Park Medicine Hat
- Southern Exposure Photography Club
- Visual Arts Student Society – VASS MHC
The outdoor art experience is being organized in conjunction with the Alberta Public Art Network’s 2019 Summit, hosted in Medicine Hat. For more information about the summit and keynote speaker event, click here.
