Canadian Premiere Performance at the Esplanade!
October 13, 2016
Using music, from pop to Baroque to heavy-metal, and known for its over-the-top high-octane dances that cross genres and generations, Complexions, founded by two virtuosos from Alvin Ailey, Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, bring two pieces choreographed by Rhoden to Medicine Hat.
Strum, to the American heavy rock band Metallica, kicks convention to the side. Classic songs “Bleeding Me,” “Fixxxer” and “The Memory” are a vehicle to depict the turbulent energy of past and present generations. Strum pays tribute to individual voices while addressing controversial themes of life, love, and death performed by 14 powerful dancers. Strum empowers the bizarre, unleashes the rebel, and embraces the tender heart.
And So It Is, a passionate tale about love, connection and intimacy, had its world premiere in Rome, Italy. This large-scale, sweeping, neo-classical work en-pointe for seven couples to Johann Sebastian Bach’s well-known compositions takes audiences on an unpredictable journey.
