Based in Montreal, Benjamin Deschamps is a sought-after saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer and arranger.
With his quartet, Deschamps won the Rimouski Jazz Festival’s Grand Award in 2013 and released his first record What Do We Know in 2014. Nominated twice for the Montreal International Jazz Festival’s TD Grand Award in 2014 and 2017, Deschamps was also nominated for the Halifax Jazz Festival Stingray Rising Star award in 2018. Winner of the Jazz Creation award by the Montreal Council for the Arts in 2016, Deschamps released his second record Demi- Nuit in 2017. In September 2018, he brought together the music collective No Codes and released a third self-titled record of original music.
Holder of a Jazz Performance Master’s degree from McGill University, Benjamin is a very active musician in Montreal’s jazz scene. He performs as a sideman in Rachel Therrien’s Quintet, which won the Montreal International Jazz Festival’s TD Grand Award in 2015 touring that same year in Western Canada and Mexico City. Benjamin performed at the Medicine Hat JazzFest that year as part of this group.
Benjamin has also toured extensively abroad including performances in Poland, France, Belgium and Switzerland and recently in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Romania and Azerbaijan. Deschamps recently played on the Broadway show touring in Montreal at Place des Arts: Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
Joining Benjamin will be Frank Lozano on tenor saxophone, Sebastien Pellerin on bass and Louis-Vincent Hamel on drums.
