Week #1: Line & Shape
Students will learn the first steps when beginning a painting; how to use line as a unit of measure and the importance of blocking in big mass shapes.
Week #2: Value & Colour
Students will create a monochromatic painting to help understand the meaning of value. Students will learn about contrast. We will move to colour later and discuss how colour evokes emotions in artwork.
Week #3: Light & Shadow
Students will learn how light moves across an object and the importance of balancing shadow shapes. We will discuss how light dissipates as it moves away from the light source.
Level Up: June 6, 13, 20
Adult painting class expanding your understanding of the basic principles, materials and techniques using acrylics. Artist & instructor Ashlee Tracka will help you advance from beginner level painting utilizing higher grade materials.
How do I know if this class is right for me?
Level Up: This class is an advancement on the beginner’s course, but it isn't a prerequisite. Registrants should have a basic understanding of composition and perspective. The challenge for this course is within observation and how you’re replicating what you see.
A patron may withdraw their registration up to two weeks prior to the start date and will be issued a full refund. No refund will be issued within the two weeks prior to the start date, but withdrawals during that time period will be considered on a case by case basis and may result in a credit applied to the patron’s name. No credit or refund will be issued to any withdrawals within three business days before the start date of the program.
