Be inspired by your surroundings and discover the magic of transforming wool into personalized masterpieces. Medicine Hat-based fibre artist, Brenda Warren, will guide you through an introduction to the art of felting as you are immersed in the thought-provoking artwork of Tim Smith in his exhibition titled “In the World but Not of It”. In this exhibition Smith provides an exclusive look into the lived experience of six Hutterite colonies across the Canadian Prairies. Just as felted fibers intertwine to create beauty, Hutterite colonies interlace their lives, cultivating a rich heritage. Both embody a delicate balance—dry felting in artistic expression, Hutterite colonies in communal harmony. This four-hour workshop for ages 13+ is a basic introduction to felting where participants will learn essential felting terms, how to blend colours and how to paint utilizing various types of wool. Participants are encouraged to bring a landscape photo to help inspire their piece. The finished product will be an unframed two-dimensional felted landscape, approximately 5 x 5 inches. Join us to learn a new craft and enjoy the relaxing art of felting, no experience necessary! All materials will be provided.
