Luke Fandrich is a Medicine Hat born photographer and filmmaker, perhaps better known by his production company and pseudonym, Editing Luke. His "Hometown Series" began in 2012 with some of the first photo essays from the collection being inspired by century old postcards of Medicine Hat landmarks, street scenes, and stereotypical depictions of life on the prairies.

While the impetus of the "Hometown Series" may have been rooted in history, the scope of the collection has grown over the last decade to include thousands of photographs that build a digital tapestry of this small city on the Canadian prairies. Focusing on areas of cultural significance or places that have become particularly defining to the region, the series has included popular, lesser-known, and all together abandoned locations. It has also included food, wildlife, architecture, landscapes, events, and a little bit of everything else in between.

The expansion of the series has largely been motivated by Fandrich's work as a travel photographer and documentarian. Each return trip has encouraged a fresh perspective on the local landscape, what makes it unique, what's often overlooked, or simply, what one finds or creates when carrying out a self-imposed challenge to explore the same locale again and again. As such, the "Hometown Series" is not complete and is not just one thing. The variety within the series, its continued evolution, and the layers that have been added over time are what have come to define this elaborate and ever-changing exploration of community, home, and the place we call Medicine Hat.
