Each year, the graduating Art & Design class at Medicine Hat College organizes a student-run art gallery exhibition. During their final semester, students plan and execute the gallery and reception, while also creating a body of work to be displayed in two locations: the One-on-One Gallery in the Cultural Centre and TREX Space downtown. This exhibition reflects their collective growth as artists after years of study, showcasing the highest level of skill and artistry they’ve achieved.
This year’s exhibition, titled living:room, explores the idea of making your presence felt in the world. It invites visitors into a cozy, intimate space—the graduating class’s “living room”—where they can experience the world through the eyes of the artists and designers.
The concept of living:room is to create a third space where the visitor is comfortable viewing the work, but is also drawn into the creator’s space. The show embodies the group’s instinct to seek comfort as they navigate their academic journey.
TREX Space is a Public Art Gallery located on the corner of 3rd Street and 5th Avenue in downtown Medicine Hat. The space is also headquarters for the Southeast Region of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program. This provincial program is dedicated to supporting Albertan artists and making artwork accessible to all Albertans. The gallery features a rotating schedule of diverse exhibitions by Albertan artists, and often presents local artists and groups. TREX Space is always free for visitors to enjoy.
